Do you hear the sounds of tinkering?

Ratnagiri in Orissa, is the site of an ancient Buddhist monastery. In the late 1960s, the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) discovered the site, which features two monasteries and a huge stupa (dome shaped structure housing a holy relic)

Nice shot! 🙂 Bye. Kamila
Thanks Kamila!
Perfect frame!
Glad you liked it. 🙂

Wow! What an entrance. The workmanship is so intricate and gorgeous. 😮
Love Indian monuments for that reason.
However, most of them are in a dilapidated state. I guess being subject to the actions of several invaders over the years results in broken and crumbling remnants of once glorious structures.
Must say that the ASI (Archaeological Survey of India, in charge of preservation and repair) is doing a decent job.
Sadly, I suspect the entrance in this case hasn’t been repaired with stone. You see the gray parts? I think that just might be cement 🙁
That’s the sad part, although, I cannot say I noticed. Fillers and facsimiles. Ugh. Everybody’s cutting corners for good reasons or BAD. How can we tell?
Yup, even I wish I hadn’t given it thought. Kinda spoils the fun.
Well, we can only hope that it’ll be taken care of in the right manner at some point. Hmmm…perhaps I should write to the ASI.
*smiles* What a novel i.d.e.a. 🙂
Lovely piece of craftsmanship.
