Kollam Beach, Kerala

Kollam Beach in Kerala has interesting things for children – from bubble wands to kites and balloons. Reminds me of my childhood..

Everyone has favorite memories of childhood.

One of mine is visiting a beach close to my Chennai house. I remember craving multicolored balloons (a wish that was not always fulfilled), munching on sundal (tempered chickpeas) fresh off bamboo baskets, chasing soap bubbles and salivating as my sis and I waited for the cotton candy vendor to hand over our pink clouds of spun sugar.

Having splashed around in the water, we would listen absentmindedly to notes drifting from a band playing nearby, while our imagination was occupied daring the waves to come get us. They couldn’t of course – our rock of valor, our granny, had us safe.
